We're off to a great start! These kiddos come in ready to learn and are ready for whatever adventure their teacher has in store! As a teacher, this pumps me up for the day.
This week we've been working on building reading stamina in the classroom and have worked up to 25 minutes of independent reading! I've been having to stop them so we can move into other subjects! Note: each night students will bring their Agenda folder home with our daily agenda and a reading log. The reading log will be their only consistent "homework." I will be sending home a chart tomorrow that shows the difference in students who read for 20+ minutes at home and those that read 5 or less. It's quite significant! Please make sure that you take time to look through the folder with them each night and send it back in the morning. This will be worth DOJO points for being responsible about their job as a Fourth Grader.
In Writing we've been working on building stamina to write on brainstorming topics in their "Writer's Field Journal." We're calling it something a little different because I'm wanting them to know that this is a place to try out stories and strategies without being graded. They've loved sharing their stories!
We're starting a new Math series and these students are working hard at being problem solvers in every math problem they come across! This week we've focused on some key Math Practices that will be woven in with the work we do along the way.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
I have no doubt, this year will be incredible! You'll find here an array of class information...eventually. Keep checking in and you'll see weekly blog updates as a substitute for a paper newsletter. We'll also house important links for the students as well as for you. Stay tuned! Updates are coming!
Together, we'll make this year the best yet!
