miss bobeen 4th
I'm so excited to grow this year with your fourth graders! Let's have a great year!
Time flies when you're having fun! We've been working hard and having fun in our classroom!
* Reading: We've been studying characters through the stories they've been reading and in our class read aloud. Holes has kept us busy and intrigued as we piece together the story of Stanley Yelnats! Reading 20 minutes or more at home will keep their minds sharp and a Reading Log filled out each day will earn DOJO points in class. The Pizza Hut Book It program will be sent home this week, so recording what they read at home will also earn them personal pizza at Pizza Hut (make sure to read how the program works - their reading log for class will not be what earns them the Book It coupon). *Writing: For the past couple weeks we've been working on brainstorming and observing author moves from authors of small moments. The students are excited to start using their sense words, showing not telling, and memory moments to craft their stories! We've also started Spelling Tests. We'll work on the word lists on Spelling City throughout the week and test on Friday. These lists focus on a spelling pattern that they'll use as they spell in their daily writing. This week will be 'Sounds of i Week 5.' * Math: Friday I sent home the Reteaching page from Topic 2 for students to show you what they know about multi-digit adding and subtracting

I hope you had an incredible Labor Day weekend!
For these first couple of weeks we've been reviewing daily routines, talking about quality character and choices, and getting back into the grove of school! In Reading we've been working on Daily 5 routines and choosing good fit books. I've been conferencing with students and checking their understanding! Keep up the good work! Also reading at home is important. They have a reading log on the back of their agenda each day to be filled out. Writing about memories, emotions, school times, history of a name, and other topics/prompts has kept us jogging our brains on stories to share. Tomorrow we'll be starting our Personal Narrative unit. Personal Narratives are short stories about a moment in our lives. Students have been asked to bring a picture or drawing of a significant moment to school tomorrow to start the writing process. This photo or drawing will stay with us for the duration of the unit, then will be sent home. If you would like it home quicker, please let me know and we can make alternate arrangements. With the Topic 1 Place Value assessment complete in Math, we will be moving on with Topic 2. They worked so hard during Topic 1 that I'm sure I will see amazing things in our Multidigit Addition and Subtraction unit! With addition and subtraction comes the need to know our addition and subtraction facts well. We are working in class to make these facts second nature with Rocketship Math, but any additional practice at home would be beneficial as well! Online tools are nearly endless, and flashcards are never a bad idea. **Below is a photo of our Brain Break just before the Place Value test!** We have a new math curriculum this year, and we're all working very hard to ensure that this is a smooth and effective transition. We are discovering new tools and information day by day, so please watch for more information to come your way in your student's folder. Graded papers will also come home for you to look over with them. With workbooks as our main media of independent work, less papers may be coming home than in years past. This workbooks is acting as a math journal and storing their work. Times may arise when students need extra practice on a skill or redo work--I will notify you if this is the case. I'm excited that enVisions has student access to online tools and assignments. In the future, students will get a login code to work on at school as well as at home. Ecosystems and Animal Adaptations will keep us busy during the next couple weeks in Science. We will be making Ecosystem shoe boxes soon, so we will be needing shoe boxes sent to school! Please send them no later than next Friday with your student's name on the box. Sorry for being long-winded! Le's have a great week! Please feel free to contact me about any question you may have! |
